Distance & Lift Ticket Prices for Ski Resorts near Amherst, MA
- Mt. Snow, VT (90 min) - Take 91N to VT Ex.2 to 9W to VT 100N to Benngington, VT.
- Berkeshire East, MA (50 min - $30/day) - Take 91N to 2W to Charlemont, MA.
- Jimminey Peak in Hancock, MA (1 hr - $30/day)
- Wachusett Mountain, MA (1.5 hrs) - Take 91N to 2E to Princeton, MA
- Okemo Mountain, VT (2 hrs)
- Killington, VT (2.5 hrs - $60/day)

- Lift tickets range between $30 to $70, and are often cheaper if you buy them 2 days in advance online (“E-Tickets”).
- Equipment rentals range between $15 to $35 and provide you with skiis, boots, and poles, or a snowboard and boots.
- If you are going to ski more than 8 times in the season, then you can get an All East College Pass for $380 which is a better deal.
Lift Ticket Incentives Demystified (or “How to save money on lift tickets”)
- Note that these prices are based on Mt. Snow pricing, whose deals are good and transferrable between the Mt. Snow, Killington, Pico, Sugarloaf/USA, Attitash, and Sunday River resorts.
- Bad: Buy the tickets each day at the resort. ($72 first day, add a second day for $56)
- Better: Purchase them 48 hours in advance online as an “E-Ticket”. (Save 10–20%, making them around $61)
- Ok: Ski only on weekdays (M-F) and the lift tickets are usually $10-$15 cheaper.
- Good: Purchase them in batches of 4 or 5 online as a “New England Value Card”. (Save 10–20%, making them around $61)
- Great: Only ski weekdays (M-F) and buy the “Midweek Madness Pass”. (the card is $39, then each day is only $39)
- Best: Purchase the All East College Season Pass for students — $380 for unlimited skiing at 6 resorts. (so $38 if you go ten times, or $19 if you go twenty times a season like me)

Preventing and Managing “Skier’s Knee”
- Caused by the patella rubbing against and inflaming the femoral condyle (groove) due to improper biomechanics
- Ice and elevate the knee when it hurts
- Take ibuprofen to reduce swelling
- Use neoprene knee sleeve and infrapatellar support (“cho-pat”) strap
- Use orthotics for pronation support
Patellofemoral Stretches
- Standing hamstring stretch (injured leg on a chair)
- Patellar motility stretches (hold patella up, down, inwards for 3×10 seconds)
- Quadriceps stretch (normal quad stretch)
- Quadriceps isometrics (flex quads while sitting down to push back of knee into floor)
- Sitting leg raises (lift injured leg)
- Step-ups (injured leg lifts)
- Wall squat with ball (to a sitting position)
